Marlin Coaches

Silas has been coaching for the Marlins for over 15 years. A high school swimmer himself, he has developed the Montrose Marlins Swim Team into a high quality swim team on the Western Slope. He coaches our older swimmers - 12 and overs and also our Masters group. In the summer, he helps out also with our Zoomer Groups. Over the years, he has coached several Division I swimmers and a National Champion Division III swimmer. Silas is also a math teacher at Montrose High School. The little time he spends away from the pool, he spends hiking, skiing, and surfing.

Ellen Erickson - Coach of Silver and Bronze Group

Ellen has been coaching the age group program of the Marlins for over seven years. She started her swimming career off as an official. Being a competitive athlete in high school, she quickly picked up the nuances of swimming and has become a huge assets for the Marlins. Ellen has three children who successfully swam their way through the Marlin program. She is a physical therapist during the day, coach in the evenings and in the very little spare time that leaves her, she enjoys bowling.

Lars Stangebye - Coach of Zoomers

Lars has been coaching the Zoomer Group of the Marlins for over 2 years. Lars swam competitively growing up in New Mexico and has never lost the love of the sport.He currently swims with the Masters teams where he is always looking for a good drill to use on his swimmers. Lars and his wife, Jenny, have five children - four of whom swim with the Marlins. His day job of being a Family Practice Doctor keeps him very busy as well as his wonderful family.

Suzi King - Coach of Zoomer Group

Suzi has been with the Marlins for over four years. Suzi was an age group swimmer in Connecticut. Her high school didn't have a swim team, but picked the sport back up in college. She was the captain of the swim team at Bates College, Lewiston, Maine, and was happy to be back in the water again!She swims with the masters team where she, with Lars, is always looking for the next great drill. She has a wonderful husband and two boys who swim. Suzi is the webmaster for the Marlins, Western Slope League and Colorado Swimming.
