Meet Schedule Posted 9/1/2010 12:37:28 PM The Majority of the Fall/Winter Meet Schedule is posted below. The meet information for Aspen and Durango is available also. As a competitive swim team we are going to highly encourage all swimmers to participate in WSL Champs in February. Additionally, if you swimmer qualifies for Silver State or State JO’s in a number of events, we will ask that you make a commitment to attend these meets as well. This commitment should match the work put in by your swimmer and the coaching staff. Please make this a priority in your winter scheduling.
All Marlin Swimmers Are Needed for Triathlon 8/27/2010 5:23:01 PM The Triathlon is held on Saturday October 2. Montrose/Olathe Elementary students compete in the School Cup which starts at 7am. Middle/High School/Adults compete in the Black Canyon Sprint Tri which starts at 8am. Swimmers in Ellen, Lars, or Suzi's Group - we highly encourage you to find two other friends and make a team and compete in the School Cup! Swimmers in Middle and High School - we highly encourage you to compete in the Black Canyon Triathlon - held the same day but open to everyone. For those of you who are new or don't remember - all attending teams are required to help out with jobs at theWest SLope meet. This is because the hosting team does not get to keep any of the splash fees, which is the major money-maker for the team. Please look at the list and sign up. We got off pretty lightly considering how many swimmers we are sending compared to everyone else. Remember that you can't be on deck at this meet, unless you are working as a timer (hint hint)

Parent Class on Monday 6/3/2010 9:55:05 PM I will be offering a parent class on Monday, June 7th. It will start at 6:30pm and will be at a conference room at the pool. We will be talking about fees, team organization, how to sign up for meets, etc. Using the new technology at the pool, I will be able to log onto the internet and demonstrate how to use our online signups. I am hoping to keep the class to about an hour. We will be going over general team info, how to read in invite, etc., from 6:30-7pm, and will be going over the internet starting at 7pm (logging in, paying online, signing up for meets). Attn: Summer Evening Swimmers 5/19/2010 10:21:41 PM While the Marlins use the pool until 8pm during the summer, due to budgetary constraints, the MRD will be closing the pool to the public by 7 pm Mon-Thur in an effort to save the district thousands of dollars in staffing costs. It would be great if we all could help out by doing the following: All parents and spectators please use the lobby or mezzanine area after 7 pm – This will allow the staff to clean decks etc. between 7-8. Swimmers please change quickly after practice! We need all swimmers to be out of the locker rooms at 8:15pm. Please be courtesey to the pool staff in dressing and leaving the pool quickily after practice. Thank you!
SWIM-A-THON SCHEDULE 5/19/2010 3:43:51 PM The swim-a-thon is May 26th. The Senior group will swim from 3:45-5:45. All other groups, including those that don't usually practice on Wednesday, will swim from 5:45-6:45. Sponsor packets MUST be turned in that evening. We will have several tables set up, probably organized by swim group, to make that as easy as possible.
Team Potluck - After Swim-a-Thon: May 26th 5/19/2010 1:53:05 PM Greetings all families and swimmers! The board decided that since we would all be together next Wednesday, May 26th, for the swim-a-thon, it would be a great time to have our team potluck. (Many of you may remember that our fall attempt was soundly stormed out.) This will be a chance for us all to get together before the busy summer season starts and to celebrate our children and their past accomplishments and their potential successes over the summer. The potluck will be held at River Bottom Park. We have the gazebo area reserved at 6:30 pm. The swim-a-thon is scheduled to end at 6:30, so we thought we would start setting up at 6:30, with the plan to start eating at 7pm. The Marlins will provide table service (plates, napkins and silverware). You need to bring drinks and chairs, and a dish to share. So that we don’t end up with 70 desserts (it would be fine with me, personally), I have divided you all up by last name as follows: A-H: Main Dish J- M: Salad N-Z: Dessert I hope we see you all there. All our new families, including those joining in June, are very welcome to come and join us. It would be a great way to get to know some of the other families you will be cheering with on deck during the summer! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. John Thomas Wins 3rd NCAA Div III Championship 3/21/2010 3:37:57 PM John Thomas, MHS'06, won the 200 Back at the Divsion III NCAA Champs this past weekend with another National Record. He also placed 2nd in the 100 Backstroke. The title was his third straight in the event and his fifth overall NCAA title. Congratulations John! You make us all proud! Note to Silas' Group 3/1/2010 10:38:36 PM Congratulations to each of you for a wonderful winter season. Reflect on how far you have come these past 4 months, your work and consistence has paid off in the pool. I attribute much of our success this season to the idea that we spent less time getting into shape and more time on the little things that make us faster. March is a good time for a little rest before we begin out Summer season on April 5th. During March please try to make it to 2 to 3 swim workouts a week as well as both of the weights sessions. Stay active. No one wants to start over in April. Summer is upon us and I can’t wait.

Team Hiring a Team Manager 1/10/2010 4:07:47 PM At our last board meeting we determined that our team has gotten to the size that we need to hire a Team Manager. This position will take care of all the administrative chores of running a team our size, including treasurer, registrar, entry chair, etc. Because this is something brand new for us as a team, we would like to hold a parent meeting to address any of your concerns or questions, and to hear any other suggestions you might have. We will also discuss exactly what we will expect of this person and have applications available for anyone interested in applying. This meeting will be at 5:30pm on Thursday, Jan 14th. It will be held in the conference room at the pool.

Silas Senior Practice a Go... 12/20/2009 11:03:24 PM Monday December 21st. Workout at Mesa State is a go. Please be at the pool by 8am. You will need your equipment. Go to 12th street until you reach the soccer field at mesa state across from Albertsons. Park on the top of the parking structure that is to the south of the soccer field. Enter the building for the top of the parking structure. This workout is for all senior swimmers that have been in my group for at least the past summer. If you are new to this group this fall I will see you at Monday afternoon's workout in Montrose. 1. You can't swim without a picture ID. We have to prove you are who you say you are to get into the pool. If you have your USA Swimming card, please bring it as well. 2. It costs $5 per swimmer to use the pool. As a competitive swim team we are going to highly encourage all swimmers to participate in WSL Champs in February. Additionally, if you swimmer qualifies for Silver State or State JO’s in a number of events, we will ask that you make a commitment to attend these meets as well. This commitment should match the work put in by your swimmer and the coaching staff. Please make this a priority in your winter scheduling.

All Marlin Swimmers Are Needed for Triathlon 8/27/2010 5:23:01 PM
The Triathlon is held on Saturday October 2. Montrose/Olathe Elementary students compete in the School Cup which starts at 7am. Middle/High School/Adults compete in the Black Canyon Sprint Tri which starts at 8am.

Swimmers in Ellen, Lars, or Suzi's Group - we highly encourage you to find two other friends and make a team and compete in the School Cup! For more information check out the website site: bctri.com/schoolcup. Maps and Registration forms are available there.

I will be offering a parent class on Monday, June 7th. It will start at 6:30pm and will be at a conference room at the pool. We will be talking about fees, team organization, how to sign up for meets, etc.

Using the new technology at the pool, I will be able to log onto the internet and demonstrate how to use our online signups. I am hoping to keep the class to about an hour.

We will be going over general team info, how to read in invite, etc., from 6:30-7pm, and will be going over the internet starting at 7pm (logging in, paying online, signing up for meets).

While the Marlins use the pool until 8pm during the summer, due to budgetary constraints, the MRD will be closing the pool to the public by 7 pm Mon-Thur in an effort to save the district thousands of dollars in staffing costs. It would be great if we all could help out by doing the following:

All parents and spectators please use the lobby or mezzanine area after 7 pm – This will allow the staff to clean decks etc. between 7-8.

Swimmers please change quickly after practice! We need all swimmers to be out of the locker rooms at 8:15pm. Please be courtesey to the pool staff in dressing and leaving the pool quickily after practice. Thank you!

SWIM-A-THON SCHEDULE 5/19/2010 3:43:51 PM
The swim-a-thon is May 26th. The Senior group will swim from 3:45-5:45. All other groups, including those that don't usually practice on Wednesday, will swim from 5:45-6:45.

Sponsor packets MUST be turned in that evening. We will have several tables set up, probably organized by swim group, to make that as easy as possible.

Team Potluck - After Swim-a-Thon: May 26th 5/19/2010 1:53:05 PM
Greetings all families and swimmers! The board decided that since we would all be together next Wednesday, May 26th, for the swim-a-thon, it would be a great time to have our team potluck. (Many of you may remember that our fall attempt was soundly stormed out.) This will be a chance for us all to get together before the busy summer season starts and to celebrate our children and their past accomplishments and their potential successes over the summer.

The potluck will be held at River Bottom Park. We have the gazebo area reserved at 6:30 pm. The swim-a-thon is scheduled to end at 6:30, so we thought we would start setting up at 6:30, with the plan to start eating at 7pm. The Marlins will provide table service (plates, napkins and silverware). You need to bring drinks and chairs, and a dish to share. So that we don’t end up with 70 desserts (it would be fine with me, personally), I have divided you all up by last name as follows:

A-H: Main Dish
J- M: Salad
N-Z: Dessert

I hope we see you all there. All our new families, including those joining in June, are very welcome to come and join us. It would be a great way to get to know some of the other families you will be cheering with on deck during the summer!

John Thomas Wins 3rd NCAA Div III Championship 3/21/2010 3:37:57 PM
John Thomas, MHS'06, won the 200 Back at the Divsion III NCAA Champs this past weekend with another National Record. He also placed 2nd in the 100 Backstroke. Congratulations to each of you for a wonderful winter season. Reflect on how far you have come these past 4 months, your work and consistence has paid off in the pool. I attribute much of our success this season to the idea that we spent less time getting into shape and more time on the little things that make us faster.

March is a good time for a little rest before we begin out Summer season on April 5th. During March please try to make it to 2 to 3 swim workouts a week as well as both of the weights sessions. Stay active. No one wants to start over in April. Summer is upon us and I can’t wait.

Team Hiring a Team Manager 1/10/2010 4:07:47 PM
At our last board meeting we determined that our team has gotten to the size that we need to hire a Team Manager. This position will take care of all the administrative chores of running a team our size, including treasurer, registrar, entry chair, etc. Because this is something brand new for us as a team, we would like to hold a parent meeting to address any of your concerns or questions, and to hear any other suggestions you might have. We will also discuss exactly what we will expect of this person and have applications available for anyone interested in applying.

This meeting will be at 5:30pm on Thursday, Jan 14th. It will be held in the conference room at the pool.

The Mariott in Grand Junction has held 40 rooms at the Courtyard and 30 rooms at the Residence Inn for both Friday and Saturday nights, January 22-23, 2010 for swimmers and their families. Pricing is:$79.00 nightly at the Courtyard for either 1 king bed or 2 queen. $89.00 nightly at the Residence Inn for a studio suite with 1 queen bed and pull out sofa. Monday December 21st. Workout at Mesa State is a go. Please be at the pool by 8am. You will need your equipment. Go to 12th street until you reach the soccer field at mesa state across from Albertsons. Park on the top of the parking structure that is to the south of the soccer field. Enter the building for the top of the parking structure. This workout is for all senior swimmers that have been in my group for at least the past summer. If you are new to this group this fall I will see you at Monday afternoon's workout in Montrose. 1. You can't swim without a picture ID. We have to prove you are who you say you are to get into the pool. If you have your USA Swimming card, please bring it as well. 2. It costs $5 per swimmer to use the pool.
